Daniel E. Peterson, LLIF, LUTCF is President & CEO of e4 Brokerage, LLC., a national independent Brokerage General Agency he formed in 2008. e4 Brokerage markets Life Insurance, Annuities, Long Term Care Insurance, and Disability Insurance for over 40 of the top insurance companies in the United States. Dan and his e4 team provide services to Financial Advisors, Accounting Firms, Trust Departments, and Financial Institutions in the area of life insurance planning and reviews, estate planning, farm and business succession planning. Peterson is considered an expert in the areas of Life Insurance Policies, Bank Owned Life Insurance (BOLI), Estate Planning, Deferred Compensation, and Farm and Business Succession Planning. Dan has extensive experience in pricing and developing insurance products with both life insurance and fixed and indexed annuities. He has been utilized as an insurance expert consultant by top 25 Accounting Firms and assisted in conducting audits of insurance policies, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs) and premium financing programs within Bank Trust Departments.
Dan has worked in the insurance business for over 30 years as an agent, home office employee, and served as Sr. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Clarica U.S., an A+ rated life insurance company that was purchased by Sun Life of Canada in 2002. He was selected to be part of the senior management team that helped sell the U.S. operations of Clarica to Midland National (Sammons Financial Group) in late 2002. Peterson has extensive background in mergers and acquisitions.
For years, Dan has worked closely with family farms and closely held businesses, helping them develop their succession and estate plans. He has developed a network of advisors, accountants, and estate planning attorneys who specialize in this area. In 2014, Dan was recognized for his expertise in farm succession planning when he became the first independent advisor to be certified in Nationwide’s “Land As Your Legacy” program. Dan has consulted and developed plans for hundreds of family farms and closely held businesses. He is an expert on the tax and legal strategies available for farms and businesses, and risk management tools that insure against the risks that can impact a plan. He understands very well the unique challenges today’s family farm has in transferring to the next generation with high land prices, low cost basis, lack of liquidity, and children who are often both on and off the farm.
Dan studied Business Administration at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He has received the LUTCF designation through the American College and the LLIF designation through LIMRA and Babson College. Dan holds his Series 6 and 63 securities licenses and is a registered representative of the Leaders Group, Inc.
Dan was recognized by his peers in the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) as the 2017 Advisor of the Year in Fargo/Moorhead and as the 2017-2018 NAIFA-ND North Dakota Agent of the Year. He currently serving as the 2018-2019 NAIFA-ND President. He also served from 2010-2013 as a Director of the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA). Dan is Past President of the FM-AM Rotary Club, is a member of the Red River Estate Planning Council, the ND Ambassador for the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU) and is Past President of the Tulaby Lake Association.
Peterson has been married to his wife Annette for 30 years and they have two sons, Jordan and Jesse, ages 16 and 14. Dan and his family also enjoy being host families for foreign exchange students. They reside in Horace, ND and enjoy their lake cabin in Minnesota. Dan also is a tournament walleye fisherman and an avid hunter.
Steve Bergee, Vice President, Sales & Marketing has more than 15 years of experience in the insurance industry. His experience includes four years of home office expertise in the life and health fields, starting out at Clarica supporting agents with life and annuity products and then with Noridian working with Medicare Part B. At e4 Brokerage he is responsible for keeping advisors updated on product changes and current marketing trends, as well as case design and competitive analysis to make sure they are equipped with the best products for their clients. Steve is also an active NAIFA member and was honored as the Advisor of the Year for NAIFA Fargo-Moorhead in 2015. Outside of the office, Steve is active in the community through his work with the Shriners and Junior Achievement. He also enjoys golf, spending time with his family, and watching North Dakota State Bison and Nebraska Cornhusker football games.
Bill Anderson, Wealth Strategist has nearly 30 years of financial services experience and is an expert in the areas of wealth planning, charitable giving, business succession, and executive compensation. For more than 20 years, Bill has lived and advised in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN area and across the nation. He is a specialist in the implementation and design of advanced planning strategies for families of significant wealth, entrepreneurs and professionals. For most of these clients, this involves working with their advisors to establish, fund and leverage multi-generational wealth strategies, frequently in tandem with philanthropic technique. Bill joined e4 Brokerage in January 2018.
Barb Wirtz, Office Manager was the first employee hired by e4 Brokerage. She has extensive experience in the insurance industry and worked at Western States Life insurance company, which eventually became Clarica, for 18 years. She works at e4 Brokerage in case management, contracting, state appointments, accounting and commissions. In addition to spending time with family, she enjoys camping, reading, working out at the gym, and following her favorite sports teams - the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Timberwolves.
Angela Summers, J.D., Assistant VP, LTC Specialist has over 10 years of experience working in the field of Long-Term Care Insurance and related products. Angela graduated from UND School of Law and practiced law briefly, before entering the insurance industry. Angela is also a licensed Life and Health agent. Her expertise centers around both standalone LTC products, and the ever-growing field of Life+LTC combo products. Whether you are a seasoned LTC agent, or are just starting your first LTC case, Angela can help with marketing materials, case design assistance, quotes, underwriting pre-qualifications, and even post-decline options. When Angela is not assisting agents design LTC-focused client solutions, she enjoys spending time with family, including her husband, daughter, and 2 dogs. She also enjoys tennis and soccer.
Krista Andring, Case Manager joined e4 Brokerage in May 2018 to assist with case management and contracting. She graduated from NDSU with B.A. in Apparel Studies and minor in Interior Design. Krista has over 16 years of experience in the medical insurance industry. Krista grew up on a family farm near Gary, Minnesota. She enjoys spending time at the farm and appreciates all the success and growth it has had over the years. Krista and her husband Ryan enjoy time with their 3 children, Madison, Hayden and Carter.The childrens' activities and events keep her busy, but she also enjoys going to the lake, reading and traveling.
Melissa Troncoso, Case Manager joined e4 Brokerage in September 2018. Her focus is on processing in the New Business area, helping agents take their cases from application to an activated policy. She attended LA Community College (LACC) in Liberal Arts. Melissa has 10 plus years of experience in customer service and in sales. Previous to this she worked six years for the medical field, in which involved health insurance processing and selling durable medical equipment. Melissa was originally born in Guatemala City, raised in Los Angeles, CA., and moved to Fargo ND in 2012. She is also bilingual (Spanish). In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband Jose and family. Some of her hobbies are exercising, dancing, going to the movie theaters, shopping, home décor and greenery/plants.
Danielle Zimbrick, Sales and Market Support Specialist has more than 18 years of experience in sales and customer service including 4 years in the medical insurance industry. Danielle obtained her B.A. in Business Administration and Marketing at MSUM. Her previous experience was largely retail management focusing on team training and development. Danielle joined e4 Brokerage in October 2018 to assist with sales and marketing support for advisors working with new and existing clients. She will also assist with Land Is Your Legacy farm management. Danielle and her daughter enjoy spending time at the family farm in west central Minnesota. Here they can enjoy their love of country life, gardening, and horses. Danielle is also a fan of photography, cooking, kayaking, and all sports (specifically football).
