Dan Peterson

President & CEO

Daniel E. Peterson, LLIF, LUTCF is President & CEO of e4 Brokerage, LLC., a national independent Brokerage General Agency he formed in 2008.  e4 Brokerage markets Life Insurance, Annuities, Long Term Care Insurance, and Disability Insurance for over 40 of the top insurance companies in the United States. Dan and his e4 team provide services to Financial Advisors, Accounting Firms, Trust Departments, and Financial Institutions in the area of life insurance planning and reviews, estate planning, and business planning.  Peterson is considered an expert in the areas of Life Insurance Policies, Bank Owned Life Insurance (BOLI), Estate Planning, and Deferred Compensation and Business Succession Planning.  Dan has extensive experience in pricing and developing insurance products, both life insurance and fixed and indexed annuities.  He has been utilized as an insurance expert consultant by top 25 Accounting Firms and assisted in conducting audits of insurance policies, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs) and premium financing programs within Bank Trust Departments.                                                                         

Peterson has worked in the insurance business for over 25 years as an agent, home office employee, and served as Sr. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Clarica US, an A+ rated life insurance company that was purchased by Sun Life of Canada in 2002.  Dan was selected to be part of the senior management team that helped sell the US operations of Clarica to Midland National (Sammons Financial Group) in late 2002.  Peterson has extensive background in mergers and acquisitions.  

He is an innovative individual with a long history of success in developing sustainable top line revenues while successfully managing long-term relationships in the Brokerage and Independent agent channels of distribution.  On May 1st, 2003 he helped start Maxx Financial Partners, LLC from scratch and is one of the founding Partners.  In October of 2007, Maxx Financial and Partners Advantage merged.  Peterson served as President and CEO of Maxx Financial Partners from 2003 through 2007 and President of Partners Advantage Insurance Services, LLC from 2007 through 2008.  As its President, Peterson led Partners Advantage through a series of significant strategic acquisitions over a three year period.  He left in 2008 to form e4 Brokerage, LLC. 

Peterson is a Senior Consultant and Relationship Manager for Meyer Chatfield.  Working closely with the leading resources of America’s Leading BOLI provider, Peterson assists Financial Institutions with Deferred Compensation and Retention designs, education, and service that help strengthen and improve financial institutions bottom line results. 

In 2013, Peterson and e4 Brokerage were recognized for their growth and quality business and invited to become a Partner with LifeMark Partners, the Preeminent Life Insurance Distribution Company in the United States.  LifeMark Partners ranks #1 in Production with 6 of the top life insurance companies in the U.S. and ranks #1, #2, or #3 with 15 companies in total life insurance production.  This association with LifeMark has brought additional benefits and resources to e4 Brokerage clients and producers. 

Peterson studied Business Administration at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.  He has received the LUTCF designation through the American College and the LLIF designation through LIMRA and Babson College.  Peterson holds his Series 6 and 63 securities licenses and is a registered representative of ING Financial Partners.  

In 2010, Peterson was elected to a national insurance post, becoming a director for the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA).  NAILBA member agencies represent 250,000 producers who deliver more than four billion dollars in first year life insurance premiums annually.  He is also a member of the Government Affairs Committee for NAILBA.  Dan is an active member of the FMAM Rotary service club, a member of the Red River Estate Planning Council, Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU), National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and is Past President and a Director of the Tulaby Lake Association.  

Peterson has been married to his wife Annette for 20 years and they have two young boys, Jordan and Jesse, ages 10 and 8.  They reside in Fargo, ND and enjoy their lake cabin in Minnesota.  Dan also is a tournament walleye fisherman and an avid hunter.

Steve Bergee

Steve Bergee, Vice President, Sales & Marketing has more than 10 years of experience in the insurance industry. His experience includes four years of home office expertise in the life and health fields, starting out at Clarica supporting agents with life and annuity products and then with Noridian working with Medicare Part B. At e4 Brokerage he is responsible for keeping advisors updated on product changes and current marketing trends, as well as case design and competitive analysis to make sure they are equipped with the best products for their clients.  Steve is also an active NAIFA member and currently on the board of directors of his local NAIFA association. Outside of the office, Steve is active in the community through his work with the Shriners. He also enjoys golf, spending time with his family, and watching North Dakota State Bison and Nebraska Cornhusker football games.

Barb Wirtz

Barb Wirtz, Office Manager was the first employee hired by e4 Brokerage. She has extensive experience in the insurance industry and worked at Western States Life insurance company, which eventually became Clarica, for 18 years. She works at e4 Brokerage in case management, contracting, state appointments, accounting and commissions. In addition to spending time with family, she enjoys camping, reading, working out at the gym, and following her favorite sports teams - the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Timberwolves.

Angela Summers, LTC Specialist has worked with Dan Peterson’s team for many years and a variety of capacities, but her expertise and focus continues to be in long-term care insurance. She earned a law degree from the University of North Dakota and practiced law briefly before entering her career in long-term care insurance. She is also a licensed life and health insurance agent. Whether you have written hundreds of LTC cases, are working on your first LTC case, or just aren't sure how or where to start, Angela can help with LTC marketing materials, case design assistance, quotes, underwriting pre-qualifications, and post-decline options. She will give you the edge to effectively serve your clients' needs.

Barb Trauman, Case Manager has more than 30 years experience in the insurance industry. Shefocuses on case management at e4 Brokerage and helping agents with their questions on specific cases. She also assists with agent contracting and licensing. Her previous experience includes 18 years at Western States Life/Clarica and 12 years at Pioneer Mutual Life. In addition to their grown daughters and grandchildren, Barb and her husband have five foster children ranging in age from 14 to 24 years of age.
